STYLING A CLOSET ESSENTIAL: THE BLAZER

A basic essential that should not be lacking in a women's wardrobe, is a structured blazer. Be it the men's inspired boyfriend blazer, a vintage retro blazer or the feminine peplum blazer, this is one piece that can instantly transform any outfit. Now, a blazer is not only perfect as work wear for the corporate world but it is great for casual looks and also for adding that perfect pop of colour to any look.

Today I'll be taking inspiration from some of the ways I styled this closet essential in the past and giving tips on how to work with those blazers.

1. The All White look
Now when it comes to pairing blazers especially colourful options, I like to go with a plain canvas like all white or even all black look. I find that going with this option makes the blazer the centre piece of an outfit.

Pop of colour, white denim, white shirt, nude purse, embroidery trend
 Here
In this first look, I opted for the classic white shirt and white denim jeans which I paired with a pink blazer that has a stunning embroidery detail. I believe this blazer is long overdue for another outfit post as I can't remember that last time I styled it.

White denim, lace, yellow blazer, nude sandals

For this second look I opted for a more casual fit with this lace detailed tank top, lime yellow Forever 21 cropped blazer and my go-to nude single sole heels.

2. Prints
Another fun way to style those blazer or jackets even is to opt for some prints.

For the above look I paired this mustard colour blazer over a retro vintage shirt from my store. I loved how this blazer added a pop of colour and immediately dressed up this look.

Paisley trousers, officer wear
 Here
Now this look which is one of my absolute favourites and yours features a soft pink blazer paired over these paisley printed trousers. What drew me to this blazer was the shiny lapel detailing. I think this look is perfect for the office, you?

3. Denim
Pairing a blazer with denim is one way to either dress up a casual outfit or make a blazer look less formal.

blue denim jeans, pink court shoes

4. Skirts
In my opinion styling a blazer over a skirt can be quite tricky. One has to consider the fit and look to more structured and tailored pieces. Now, while one can get away with styling an oversize blazer over a pair of trousers it may not necessarily work with skirts but it can be done right.

beige skirt, blazer upgrade, statement obi belt
In this look, I tucked an ill-fitted blazer into my skirt and added a statement obi belt.

pin stripe skirt, retro blazer
Now this look takes inspiration from the power suit. The more tailored fit and slight flare on the waist of this particular blazer, makes the pairing with the skirt just work.

Do you agree that a blazer is a must-have for every fashionista? How do you like to style your blazers? What is your favourite look?

  1. I love, love, love the second outfits in looks 2 and 3. Choice of colors are so refreshing.

Funny enough, I don't think I'much of a blazer person as I don't wear them often. Or i probably just don't have nice enough ones.

    Great post Sarah!!!

  11. I guess I can't walk away from this as usual. I'll have to drop this: my favorite is the soft pink blazer paired over the Paisley printed trouser. And the ill-fitted blazer tucked into the skirt + the statement belt. Such a great blend of color. Looks more like a corporate gown. I think I'll be coming over for that belt. I've seen enough of its goodness. You rock girl...

    1. Lol girl but sadly the belt has said no more Sarah, it broke my heart but the leather starting pealing. Working and searching for a new one now. And thank you, most people thought it was a dress then and that Paisley combo is always a favorite. You rick too girl, thank you for this lovely comment.
