BLOGGING: I QUIT?

Sigh, it's been such a long time guys. I'm honestly not sure where to start from but here goes...

I've been struggling with this for a while now and after almost four years the thought of quitting blogging was as strong as ever.

Hence I took a proper step back. To think I'd want to quit something that makes me so happy or should I say made me so happy.

Why? You might ask. Well, the pressure got too real and I guess I caved. What with the changes in the blogosphere with aesthetics, monetization, traffic, followers count, blogging started loosing its fun part.

If you quit blogging what would you do though? That was the most common question I was asked. Such a good question lol because blogging has been a huge part of my life so what exactly would I do in my free time? Also I mean four years is no joke as was pointed out. "Hang in there Sarah", they said. Its too late/early to quit. Take a break instead.

And that I did. This is actually the longest I've been away from here. If you read my last few posts, well you saw it coming.

So what did I do while I was away? For one thing, I slept more, focused more on work. Spent more time at home too during the weekends. Although, I missed blogging at times and then sometimes I didn't.

But in the end most of all I missed the process of blogging, reading your feedback on my Sarah Speaks and talking about stuff, a lot happened while I was away too. I'm back though! Not sure of every thing as of now but I'm trying to rediscover the fun parts of blogging again. Meanwhile, I've got some great stuff for you guys so hey hey stick around.

This retro blazer was previously styled here. Today I paired it with this maxi skirt with this lovely lace detailing and my vintage scarf, perfect addition to any look actually.

How have you been guys? Did you miss me?  What you been up to? Ever thought of quitting before? What was it? And why?

Let's stay in touch!

Hey girl, I totally feel you, the thought of quitting definitely crossed my mind. Especially since I went back home and started working. It just isn't something that I think about the way I used to, I barely even check other blogs and when I do I just lurk. It saddens me a bit because blogging really helped me and this is something that I don't want to give up but I just don't know how to get the motivation back. When I have some free time I'd rather rest or spend it with my family/friends than blog.
It's funny because when I don't blog for a while I miss it, but when it's actually time to make a post I become lazy. I do have a lot of stuff that I can actually post but I just never find the motivation to do it. I was planning to write a similar article and get people's opinion and I stumbled upon yours...
I've been thinking about taking a longer break to see if I really miss it instead of just having couple months breaks between posts.

Anyways, I'm glad you're back, and I love your outfit, you never dissapoint.

Take care,

It’s good to have you back! Thank you for sharing this struggle with us because some people may also be thinking of quitting.

I personally think it is okay to quit a project you are working on if you feel a very strong need to, however if something keep drawing you back... then maybe... just maybe now isn’t the right time to.

Once again, it is good to have you back.

First, you’re looking so radiant Sarah! Bravo to Wayt. Second, I totally understand how you feel. The pressure and struggle is real. Early last year, I was really close to quitting. A lot happened and I felt like the joy of blogging started turning into unnecessary anxiety. Friends and family, though empathic, could not understand. It took 1 person (who was neither a family/friend) to convince me to keep going. My point is, do what is best for Sarah. I would be sad if you shut you doors (we go wayyyy back) but I totally support your decision either way.

Welcome back dear. Good thing you took the break since you really needed it. Quitting blogging has crossed my mind in the past but naaaaaa we will continue doing what makes us happy! That was the original reason we started anyway! Money, followers etc are just an added plus.

I noticed the absence! One thing I've come to learn is to do it at my own pace. It really helps to calm me down! The blog aesthetics, monetization don't even get to me because I constantly remind myself of why I started my blog. I definitely don't mind making money off it. Like, I wanntt to. I need the money lol but I don't think about it too much cause it isn't the original purpose. It's definitely okay to take a break. We all need it. Loveeee the pictures! So crisp. Welcome back dear. xx

It's like you're in my head. I too often visit other blogs but these days I rarely comment. And really blogging has been a huge part of me for so long I wonder if I'd be the same without blogging. And I totally get it, adulthood has a way of making us just want to lounge at home and relax. The laziness is something I struggle with too and times but you've just got to do it. In fact this post sat in my drafts for several weeks before I made the final edits and posted. I hope you find that motivation to come back again and also to write the article on this. And perhaps a proper break is necessary, though taking too much time off in this industry is not always great but at the end of the day, do you.Thank you for stopping by, how's home??

Aww thanks so much John, I'm so glad my NYSC post was this helpful, it's one of my favorites. I really appreciate your words of encouragement. For now I'm in this, and I look forward to creating so much more content.

That was my main reason for writing this, thought it would be relate-able and also a way of explaining my absence. Thank you

I quite agree with you but at this point like you said something always brings me back to blogging so maybe it's not time yet.

Glad you relate, I'm not alone I guess. Thank you

Thanks Louisa, indeed Bravo to the photographer. No plans to shut my doors yet girl, you're one of the people that have inspired me to step up my blogging game especially when looking at your growth over the years. The struggle is indeed real but at this point I'm working to rediscover the joys of blogging.

Lol you sound like one of my favorite people with that phrase "everything will be fine" but I know they will. Thank you, I feel more refreshed coming back now.

Sarah Enuwa Audu said...

That's true Alma but on days when the passion runs out the other stuff are motivation to keep going but enough complaining though, it's time to work work. Thank you!

Sarah Enuwa Audu said...

Thank you thanks girl, for now it feels good to be back.

That's the thing with me too girl, blogging has a way of finding it's way back. Thank you!

It's so great to have you back Sarah, I really missed this space! I think it was a good idea to take a step back. I agree blogging can feel so stressful especially when you're working your butt off and you're not seeing the results that you expect. It can be really discouraging. Glad you're back, good luck with figuring it all out. xx

I'm here from the perspective of someone who can't relate lol. Personally, I never let blogging pressurize me, if i cant think of a blogpost i dont stress it, if stats are low thats totally okay, if my aesthetics aint in line thats totally fine too. Blogging will remain a hobby to me to matter how the blogging industry spins and turns. I believe just doing it because you enjoy and totally ignoring what goes on in the 'blogosphere' makes it stay worth your while all the time.

This absolutely warmed my heart!
Personally, I don't want you to quit as you are one of the people who genuinely drew me to blogging, I just love your real-ness and style.
However, I still believe wholly that you should do what's best for you!
You may have to slow down, speed up, check techniques, but please remain yourself.. Sarah Enuwa Audu, Power Woman!

I super missed you and I'm glad you're back.Funny how I currently feel like quitting because the MOJO has just been on and off. But, I'm simply going to "Inhale Courage and Exhale Fear". I've come this far and I can only get better.
Welcome back Babes!!!!

@Demilade Aww thanks girl, it's good to feel missed that way you know your presence was actually felt. Yeah, you know my issue is not even the stress but when you feel you have not reached where you should be. Thank you for reading, I'm slowly getting the hang of things.
@Ifeoma, It's actually a good thing you can't relate girl because when one puts too much pressure on once self, it makes things harder. Those other things I believe only really start to matter when you feel you're not where you should be, and that's where I am or should I say where I was hence the need for a break. Just taking things easy and slowly for now.

@Desire Thank you girl, I don't want to quit either. Thank you, we have to keep it real you know. Just working to get back into the groove too. Thanks for the vote of confidence, I'm glad to have inspired. Comments like yours really warms a bloggers heart and keeps her going, thank you

@Wanshygirl I missed the blog sphere too but I actually kept up with your posts, silently though as I never left comments. I like that "Inhale Courage and Exhale fear". The mojo for me is still a work in progress but one step at a time we'll get back to this. I'd like to believe the future has much greater things in store.
