Sarah Speaks: For the Money or the Passion

"Find your passion and you'll never work a day in your life".
This was a phrase I always used to scoff at. I would wonder what people saying this was smoking as working a typical 9-5 job was the status quo. Most parents send their children to school in order to get a good job, not to find their passion or true calling in life. And after all a good job has always been the only way to make a proper living. But after working a typical job, getting fired, chasing passion and getting back to the 9-5 life, I couldn't agree more with the above statement but...

In a country where unemployment is on a rise daily, where finding a job is a blessing and not a guarantee, people (my family and friend) see you as crazy or ungrateful when you complain about being in the 9-5 life or even when you attempt to pursue a passion where money is guaranteed.

Everyone is different at the end of the day but the thought of just living, surviving and not passionately going through life sounds so uninspiring. Surely there has to be more to this life than going to work every day solely to get paid at the end of the month and then sort bills? Money is good, great even but there has to be more. Because what about happiness or feeling accomplished?

This takes me back to a point made in one of my Sarah Speaks here...
" At the end of the day, it's not just about any job that pays the bills but that job that makes one excited. That job that makes one want to go to work every morning and even look forward to Monday's.  Because if you think about it, with a basic 9-5 you would spend most of your waking hours either at work, getting to work or going home."

As for the outfit, one way to look smaller or hide imperfect parts of your body is to opt for bigger clothes. As you know trousers are my go-to fit especially loose fitting pairs like palazzos. These trousers were last styled here for a date night look. Today, I simply went back to the basics and paired it with a striped top, I love the colour contrast in the dark blue and burgundy, don't you?

Are your working for the passion or money? How's it going? Are you searching for the 'more'in life? Can you relate to this post? Please share your thoughts.

  1. Thank you for this post Sarah! I haven't started working yet (still in school), but I've been thinking about my future recently and this has helped me remember that it's not all about money or doing what everyone else is doing. I usually believe that if one is doing what she's supposed to and doing it well, she'll have enough money to live, in other words, living in God's purpose for you is the best place to be. But, sometimes I need reminders i.e this post :) Thanks again and have a great weekend!

    1. I agree, if it's God's plan, he will make it work but only if it's his plan. I used to think money would be enough but now I've changed my mind. I envy those who make a living from their passion. It really isn't all about the money! Thank you for reading.

  3. Tbh my whole year has been about this, Got a job for the money in february it was just horrible and I was always angry going to work. I tried to stay but I decided I needed peace and would rather find something else I loved doing. Ppl thought I was stupid when I quit but naa ill rather go hungry. So for me I learnt in 2018 that I cannot work where there is no passion or at least a lil bit likeness of the job.

    1. Wow, I admire your braveness girl. With the current situation of thing in Nigeria, I can't but I get it. Life is to short to be doing something that does not make one happy.

  4. My dear. This is my dilemma right now. Sometimes I feel like running away and disappearing, just so I don't show up for work. As for my passion, which fashion, beauty, blogging, etc... I have to stay on the job, to till these things start fetching me good money.

    1. I agree girl, while it's important to chase passion, one must have a plan first. Meanwhile, we thank God for a job.
