CHECKMATE
So there I was, Saturday night, standing in front of the mirror with clothes strewn everywhere trying to decide what to wear to church the next day. Then I remembered this lovely skirt I had thrifted a few weeks ago and I reached for it. The task of finding a matching top presented itself but then I saw my check shirt lying in a pile of clothes. I was unsure of this pairing at first since I had stopped wearing this shirt due to the fit but after trying on the check shirt, I thought to myself "Checkmate" hence the title of this post.
Let me challenge you now as I ask you one simple question, "what do you think about when your alone". The message today really caused me to further question the type of shows, movies, books and music I expose myself too. The truth is what we choose to mediate on matters because it shapes our attitude and that's eventually what we become. I am also talking to myself when I say this, we need to really censor what we allow our eyes to see. Its a constant struggle but God's grace is sufficient for us.
"And now dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise"
(Philippians 4:8 NLT )
Shirt: Street Market (old) // Skirt: Thrifted // Shoes: Forever 21 // Necklace: H&M

Found you on Anna's blog! I totally love this look. I'm obsessed with plaid and red, though I don't have much of either. It's very ironic. The hemline of this skirt is so lady like too.
ReplyDeleteThat is so awesome that you put up that verse. That has been the verse circulating in my head all week. I wrote it down on a piece of paper a few days ago (though I've known this verse for a while) and how much impact it gives to reality and to me. There's so much proof too that what you think becomes your reality. We take this verse for granted without looking into the power our thoughts, words, and activities bring us. Our thoughts and what we consume in our everyday lives can manifest themselves in either a blessing or a curse. One of the hardest things for me and my husband to give up is listening to music that may not give us a positive effect on our souls. It's hard because most of the amazing music out there is influenced by Satan, and actually good and blessed music can be quite unpalatable. It's definitely hard to find a balance.
Anyway, would love to hear from you about this!
Love,
Rachel

I feel you Rachel, what we think is definitely what we become. I myself struggle in selecting music to listen to but thank God for his grace.
