HOW WOULD YOU WEAR | COLOUR-BLOCKING
"The world will tell you who you are until you tell the world"
Photography by Ruth Audu
In the world of social media, uncertainty in who you are as a person can leave you doubting yourself while comparing and measuring your success to that of others. Comments like "I wish I had her life" or "why is she so perfect?" Has now become a common thing on the accounts of a lot of social media celebrities. What we fail to understand is that people only put their best out for the world to see. I can't tell you how many pictures I take or the number of edits that go into making a picture "perfect" for social media. Case in point, did you now that the placement of my purse in most of these pictures was done to cover my annoying tummy pouch which I've been trying to get rid of.
It's easy to see peoples lives on social media sites like Instagram and want to be like them but you don't know what they go through behind closed doors. Do not be deceived by what you see, it's only one side of the spectrum. What are your thought on this?
Let's move on to today's post. You all know I love my colours. Which is why I am excited that this month's theme is colour-blocking. I simply played up the colours of my graphic T-shirt by going with this green skirt (styled here, here) and then a pink purse. A gold or yellow pair of heels would have been perfect but you've got to work with what you have. The search is still on for a gold pair though and I'm actually considering this pair on Things Nigerians Love.
P.S Check out some of my other colour-blocking looks here, here and here. Stay tuned for a post on how to colour-block.

ReplyDeletei love it, am not big on color blocking because well i suck at i lool but you guys look so nice and makes it look easy. And i agree with you, people only shows you the good side of their life no one knows the devils they battle with everyday, thats why i no longer wish i had a popular persons life, the grass is not always greener on the other side, its greener where you water it.

Thank God I not the only one that thinks trying to be like someone on social media is wrong, just because we look perfect online doesn't mean everything is fine :). Your outfit looks pretty and Idon't know when I would stop blocking colours, The trend gets me excited because I can form another colour just with my dressing. About the pouch please freestyle, most of us are guilty LOL...

Everyone definitely put their best foot forward online. We have to remind ourselves that this is a strategically curated image we're looking at. Life isn't lived through filters and edits it is experienced.

@Sophie Originality is the best thing to be, glad you agree.
ReplyDelete@Buiti lol I have no idea.
@Simply Uneeke, Colour-blocking is indeed easy, you'll figure it out. I love how you put this "the grass is not always greener on the other side, its greener where you water it."
@Yetunde I wouldn't say it's wrong to try to be like someone else on social media. We can look to others for inspiration but we don't have to copy them, welcome back to blogging by the way.
@Weluditoh, I always fold my sleeves, I feel cooler like that lol.
@Bash Lol a girls got to do what a girls got to do. I love pink and green together as well.
@Violet, yes girl I love that. Life is experienced!
Happy Monday, darling!! This is such a cute look! You look amazing, as always!

Exactly, what people don't seem to understand is that nobody put their flaw on social media, it's so easy to envy or compare our lives to others but at the end of the day we don't even know them, we know what they choose to share.
ReplyDeleteLove the colors in your outfit!
xx
You know how I feel about colors, and your outfit came out great. As for social media, and how people portray their life, is exactly that, a portray. You don't know what is going on behind close doors, and something I like that. FB be having so much drama that it is nice to see something stage once and a while. I know my outfit and photoshoots are always a lot of works, and an lot of shots, so staging is okay lol.

Great take on the color blocking theme Sarah! I def agree with the first part of your post..as humans its easy for us to compare ourselves to other people, especially if you're not where you want to be in life but we have to remember that everyone has there own lane and its not about the race its about the destination..thats what I Iike to keep in mind
ReplyDeletePoshNpetite.blogspot.com
I have a scheduled post on this already weirdly. People judge thirr own lives by other people social media accounts which often times is full of edits, filters and the best of their life
ReplyDeleteLove how you have styled the whole look.

I love these colors! you know how i lavv the idea of color blocking, you are always on you A-game! You dropped a deep issue a lot of people need to really look, you couldnt have said it any better. Comparison is the thief of joy! Embrace every moment of your journey, gushh how peaceful that actually is.

hi Audu you are perfectly right behind the perfect images that we see on social networks hide other realities and it is not easy to always keep this in mind. This outfit is simple and pretty graphics shirt brings a little something.

You always do a spectacular job with color and this outfit is no exception! <3

You are so right. It took me some time to realise that people share only the good stuff. It's really easy to fall into the "my life is so boring" depression. I always have to remind myself not to compare myself to others. If God wants me to be here now, I have accept it even when it seems unfancy. x
ReplyDeleteColour blocking is so exciting! I love the colour combination you have here, so bold and adventurous! You look amazing!
