Happy New month and Welcome to the second half of 2016!
Wow how time flies, God has been so good. I still have lot to accomplish this year but thank God for everything!

In our society today it is very easy to get wrapped up in comparing ourselves to others. Social media which is both an inspiration and motivation is hurting the self confidence of a lot of people. It’s easy to feel bad when you see someone outrunning or outshining you but what we often forget is that Social Media is mostly contrived efforts to paint a picture of perfection.

The thing is, the only person you really should be competing with is the person you were yesterday. While it is important to occasionally compare ourselves so as to draw motivation and push ourselves, always remember that your step 1 cannot be compared to another person’s step 2. We all have our paths in life. For some people things come easier or quicker, while for others things take more time and effort.

I'm not going to lie, its hard out there trying to compete in a contrived world of perfection where you see people killing it and showing off. But this is why I feel it’s important to keep records of how far we've come so we can visibly see our progress. The other day I was just going through my blog, which is something I beat myself over at times. But looking back at how far I've come, I can say that I am proud of myself.

At this point in time in the year, it’s important to look back, reflect and push more than ever to be successful this year. I am confident that the ending of this year will be better than the beginning. The bible says it better.

"Better is the end of a thing than the beginning thereof"
(Ecclesiastes 7:8 NKJV)

What are you most accomplished about and how do you keep yourself from negative comparisons?

  1. Wow you are very right. I found myself comparing myself to other bloggers and beating myself for not reaching the same levels as they have. But I realised it is so much more important to focus on individual growth and progress without focusing too much on what the next person is doing. Maybe we can draw inspiration from one another but comparing is never the answer, it simply eats into your soul and undermines all you have done to reach where you are now. You are so right. We see someone reaching their level 2 quicker than us but for all we know their level 2 could last a few years and you could jump to level 6 quicker than them it's all about timing but most importantly not comparing. I love the honesty in your posts, it really inspires me to be more honest with my posts too. I guess sometimes this blogging life can appear faker than it should be. I am very proud of the fact that I am beating my depression, I am finding my niche in the blogging world, I am blogging more often, I am feeling more creative with my looks, I have finally discovered where I want to be in life and how I want to achieve my goals, I am less concerned with what people say about me and more concerned with what I say about me and what God says about me. I guess one way I have found which has helped is looking back at the times when I was younger when I cared about what people said and was scared of feeling embarrassed and discovering 1. there was no reason to feel embarrassed, 2. whatever I was embarrassed about doesn't matter anymore and most people have probably forgotten about it, 3. people can talk but it is up to me to listen and half the time people speak negatively about you it's because they are feeling badly about themselves so honestly it is a reflection of them and I don't want to waste my life worried about what others will think or letting my fears write my story for me. I need to live my life to the fullest and realise exactly what I can be if I put the extra effort.

    1. Hey girl, so glad you overcame and are now more confident and more comfortable in who you are. And yeah this blogging industry can be pretentious at times, which is why its important to believe in ourselves. Thank you so much for this awesome comment, I literally smiled when I saw it.

  2. I can't even lie, I've been dealing with insecurity and a little envy recently. And I've been seeing over and over and over again to compare yourself with YOU... to work towards a better YOU!

    True talk.

    1. Yeah hun the emphasized word is You. Thank you for reiterating this and I appreciate your honesty.

  3. Everything you said is so true and I must admit people have a social media kind of life and the real life that no one knows about! But staying positive and true to yourself and working on being a real and a better person beats it all
I would say inner happiness and contentment comes first before we can be happy for others and thats all we should focus on and also not have something just because everyone is having or doing it!
Feeling very motivated and positive dear Sara
    enjoy your new week

    1. Glad you enjoyed it and I love what you said about being happy for others, I struggled with that for a while but once I learnt how to be happy for the success of others I started feeling happier and less envious.

  4. well said, babe! Social media can drive people nuts sometimes but trying your best not to compare yourself to others and staying positive are key to surviving and succeeding in this digital age. Only you know yourself more than anyone else so only you know what makes you happy! Love this post!

    xo, Carla

    1. Thank you, we've just got to be carful and stop believing every thing we see on social Media. I like this, "only you knows what makes you happy"

  5. I super love your new theme!! and as they say comparisons steal joy

  6. ..... And yet again I'm reminded of the truth. Comparison should be with who I was yesterday.
My recent post was birthed out of the weight of insecurity I felt... it's not over yet but it's gradually peeling off.
Girl, everyone is broken inside we just have nice ways of covering it.
    Lots of love!

  7. I love how there's been a lot of posts on the blogsphere on social media envy and comparison. The reality is that it happens, but we have to be mindful of it and nip it in the bud, being thankful for our very own progress and striving to be better. When I had only blogged for two days, I was comparing myself to someone who had been blogging for two years! It was so hilarious to me.
