SARAH SPEAKS: WHATS THE RUSH?
I stood
with my dad and marvelled at some of the experiences he’s gone through. Growing
up, mommy and daddy didn't tell me a lot of things about their lives growing up
but I guess since I'm older now and their older too they can basically be blunt
and straightforward to me.
So I listened as he told me about some of the
menial jobs he did while growing up and struggling to make ends meet. While we
laughed about it, the whole time, I kept thinking and wondering if I could at this
point in my life "stoop so low" and do certain jobs. That's not
saying I don't believe that there is dignity in labour but still I wonder.
I mean we live in a generation where everyone's rushing to the top. Nobody wants to wait or go through the struggle. We all just want to get there and get there fast. I know for me, when I pictured my future I thought I would be making tons of cash and be at a different level by now, I'm thankful regardless. Social media is not helping either as we constantly see people flaunting cash, cars and houses. Also there's this thing with the human ego too. Admittedly if I had my way, I’d be cruising in my car, travelling 24/7 and chilling in my well-paying job or business but life doesn't go as planned does it?
However, what is all the rush in life though? I feel most times when we rush, we make mistakes. Have you ever rushed out of the house to work or maybe an event? You'll find that most times you end up forgetting something or missing out on an opportunity.
Now looking back at the man my father, I will say the experiences he’s had, challenges he’s faced and various jobs he’s done, has played a big more like huge role in who he is (daddy's girl here). And not only my dad, some of the biggest entrepreneurs or powerful men and women started at the bottom. So maybe we should stop with all the rushing. I mean we shouldn't get complacent but good things take time and sometimes even more time than expected.

The words in this post are just what I needed today. I have been feeling frustrated about ends not meeting and such. Its even comforting to know that i'm not the only one going through this phase. I guess great things really do come to patient people.

DeleteThis is very true. Our generation wants to 'get there and get there fast'. Reality has a way of humbling us; the good thing being that it does so with experiences as reward.
ReplyDeleteWe constantly should remind ourselves that there's no rush in life. If anything we just would end up stuffs we're supposed to take in.
Your last point right there, rushing or hurrying in our generation is one of the reasons a lot of people do crazy things and take short cuts then end sadly. Experience is truly a reward so I guess we can say thank you to reality.

DeleteUgh! You do know that this post is needed by all. It is crazy how we have become lovers of ourselves that nothing else matters. From wishing your life gets better like the person next to you, to thinking about just making money money without impacting lives.

Funny thing is as we wish to have the lives of others we don't actually know what they did to get there. We focus so much on self but what matters in life is how we impact others. The grace of God is indeed needed and thankfully its sufficient and covers for our weaknesses. Though living a life focused on eternity does not take away the need for us to be successful here on earth, because I feel prosperity is a testimony of Gods hand and proof that it works. Though I agree with you, we seem to be getting too materialistic these days.

DeleteSo true about the media not helping our situation, but we have to be content and its easier said than done, but if you have what you need and you're happy life is beautiful, as for menial jobs, the society doesn't provide much respect and even funds to make it suitable for anyone, but if you must its always a great start point to tell your story, I have mine oh hahah...

Patience is a virtue that we lack in our generation and I hope God helps us with it and the media, I always say people show you want they want you to see so I don't get moved by people's life on SM

Hi 5 fellow daddy's girl on the blog lol. I think when God seeing the hard work and commitment who opens doors and does the rest. May God help us indeed and rightly said though sometimes its hard not to pay mind to those things on social media.
DeleteSocial media definitely doesn't help but we got to go past the urge of comparing our life to others to be able to live without feeling inferior or feeling like we aren't good enough. It's not always easy but patience and faith should be enough to go through all this.

I like that patience and faith should be enough. And one thing we need to ask ourselves is when we compare success, how do we even measure it. Its not easy really but as Funke said above, people only show what they want you to see, so we must remember that.
DeleteI totally agree that social media isnt helping atall. Even in the blogging world its so easy to see some other bloggers large following and your heart rate drops because you already compared your little audience to their large one. In the words of "someone famous" (I forgot his name just now😂😂) Life is what happens while you're busy planning it. Its really just patience and faith in your abilities that take you far. I remember a quote about how we humans should learn to follow our hearts and passions and not other people's voices because our hearts already know were we are going.🙌

And I agree with you, when it comes to social media in the blog world its so easy to compare. Though what standards do we use? Does the number of social media followers really rate a successful blogger or person? Because they can be bought. So how do we measure success?

DeleteMy dad always told us stories of how he struggle when he was young and how he had faith that one day he will make it and this is always in my head everyday, nothing comes easy and we need to be patient. God's time is the Best.
