Colour Blocking, Ankara, Puff Sleeves, Mules and an Ode to My Childhood
Colour blocking, ankara prints, puff sleeves, and mules are all current trends that I'm totally loving and featuring in today's outfit. I guess we could call this a four in one as it features some of my all-time favorite trends. We all know styling bold colour together is back and I couldn't be more excited seeing as I've always had a thing for color blocking. Now mules have been an item which I hated for the longest time but look at me now, wearing this pair on repeat.

In Reference to the above point, it's amazing to see how one can change in such a short time. From hating or disliking something to fully embracing it. Which makes me wonder as we mark International Children's Day 2018, what my younger self would think of the present me and if she would she be proud of the choices I've made or how far I've come. Now I've made a lot of choices both the good, bad and regretful even but if there's anything life has taught me so far is that every mistake is an opportunity to learn something new.
And if I had to go back in time and talk to my younger self, I'd tell her to take things easier and enjoy the whole process of growing up. And more importantly, stay true to ones' values and not bend or conform in to please others or fit into the crowd. Because it's always good to stand out for the right reasons.
And while I love the independence that comes with being an adult, one thing I miss about being a child is the careless abandon that came with a total lack of responsibilities. It's my goal to make proud, the younger me and all she stood and still stands for.

Now back to the outfit, puff sleeves have to be my all-time favorite trend ever! My style is quite basic hence I love the extra oomph that puff or flared sleeves add to basic pieces. And this top is no stranger on the blog as it's been styled twice already (here and here). If you haven’t already noticed, I'm a proud repeat offender so sorry not sorry because I'm getting good value for my money and making the most of my wardrobe too. My ankara skirt is a DIY by my sister, I really love how mustard and red pair together (they are some of my favorite colours). My mules cost only 5k on sale from a Made in Nigeria brand and I love it. I mean it isn't the best quality ever but you get what you pay for and it’s comfortable and super affordable too.

DeleteI love your outfit. I love the bold colours and your smile.
ReplyDeleteI miss the lack of responsibility of when I was a child but some of my childhood memories are painful and I'm grateful for the happy ones I have now as an adult.
I think my younger self would be proud of where we are right now.

Mustard is especially stunning on black skin. Really and the block ones are my ultimate favourite and so comfortable too. I look forward to reading that note.
