Nigerian Fashion Brands: Lets Talk #madeinnigeria

Nigerian Fashion Brands

Nigerian Fashion Brands

If you've been following this blog for a while, you'd know that on here we are huge fans and promoters of Nigerian Fashion Brands or Made in Nigeria products. In fact, in 2018 I did an entire series on various Nigerian Designers. I believe that as Nigerians, it's important to highlight and celebrate local businesses that are doing well. This especially as we look towards ways to boost our economy

However, as much as I love my Nigerian Fashion Brands, I have unfortunately been let down one time too many. A lot of money has been wasted on items of low quality too, this has made me take a huge step back. I've also become wary following my exploration with Nigerian businesses from 2018-2019. I now go for thrifting as opposed to shopping from Nigerian Fashion Brands especially when it comes to cheaper or more inexpensive products

What are the issues?

There are a ton of issues but the major ones for me are:
1. Bad Finishing on clothes
2. Inconsistency
3. Uncertainty
4. Low Value for money

At the end of the day when shopping from Nigerian designers, especially ones that retail cheaper products, you never know what to expect. Items often come with one issue or the other. And a lot of times, brands are good today and bad tomorrow. Now I recognize the infrastructural limitations and challenges that these businesses face trying to run a business in the harsh economic climate of Nigeria and still keep prices reasonable, there has to be some sort of balance. And by balance I mean, a way that middle-income Nigerians can get quality pieces are inexpensive prices. Perhaps this is asking for too much, what do you think?

I have a lot more to say about this which is why I filmed a video sharing more of my thoughts on my earlier points. Check it out on my Youtube channel below and be sure to subscribe too.

Meanwhile, as much as there are challenges with patronizing Nigerian Fashion Brands, I believe and know amazing designers that are worth promoting. Thus I've collaborated with four other Nigerian bloggers to highlight accolade-worthy Nigerian Designers. Head over to their blogs to read their take and learn about new brands too. Also, check out my Youtube Video below for 10 Nigerian Designers to patronize, you are welcome!

  1. I love and agree with all your points. I really hope Nigerian Fashion Brands will take note of these and do better so we can take the NFB to the next level.
